SECOND ANNUAL MENTAL HEALTH LUNCHEON In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, on Friday, May 21, 2004 the Black Mental Health Alliance hosted its second annual luncheon at the Radisson Hotel, Cross Keys in Baltimore city from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Over one hundred people were in attendance to hear Dr. William B. Lawson and Richard A. Rowe present on: Optimal Mental Health: Healing the Souls of Black Men. Dr. William B. Lawson is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Howard University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He is Past President of the Black Psychiatrists of America, an organization that represents over 1500 African American psychiatrists in the United States. Mr. Richard A. Rowe, MPA is the Executive Director of the African American Male Leadership Institute, Inc. and Vice Chairman of the Black Mental Health Alliance’s Board of Directors who also gave a presentation on local statistics and information related to Black men and mental health and provided a reading list of recommended books.
